{Sakagura}
I was glad that I texted Gabi on the way out, because she could come out for lunch. Since I didn't go to Nolita yesterday, I was heading there today, but I detoured and went to Midtown East (where I used to work) to see her.
Midtown East are mostly occupied by offices, so there are not many places to eat rather than fast food chains or delis. (I was bringing my lunch box after working there for some years!) One very interesting thing here that I read from New York Magazine is that population here shrinks from 200,000 in the day time to barely more than 40,000 at night. And most of chain restaurants and delis are closed after office hour.
However, there are a few very nice Japanese restaurants here, like the one we went today. There are many of Japanese restaurants in East Village, and the ones there are more affordable and casual places. In the meantime, the ones in Midtown East are more pricey, and formal. These are the places more for Japanese people who works in offices around the area.
Today, we went to a place called "Sakagura". It's sort of a hidden place, located on the basement floor in one of office building on 43rd Street. Unless, you know the place, it's almost hard to recognize that a restaurant is there. But the food and sake selection is great there. Also, its lunch menu is very good and choices are a lot for the lunch menu.
For after hour or dinner, it's better to order several appetizers and sake rather than main dishes. Plus, deserts are must here...like sorbets or flans.

The place is quite authentic, like in real Japan.
