Thurs. 06/17/2010 - M4 Bus Tour

M4 Tour
Today I felt for Washington Height where I used to go often when one of my friends lived on 181st Street and Fort Washington Avenue. The area was almost unknown even for many New Yorkers but actually it was nice and interesting area with very nice Fort Tryon Park.

I always went there by A train, but today, I decide to take bus so I could look at the streets on the way up there. I knew M4 left from Penn Station and went all the way up behind 201st Street to The Cloister Museum. So, I hopped on M4 and it turned out to be a very exciting tour bus! Obviously I took the window seat and I did round trip! It inspired me to take all the buses in NY and tour the city by it with my unlimited metro card!!!

M4, on the way up, passes through 32nd Street Korea Town, runs on Madison Avenue passing by almost endless high-end shops after shops that go higher and higher end as the street numbers go up, plus peeking through valuable estates from Upper East Side and right in front of the Whitney Museum. And suddenly the scenery changes and it's on the drag of East Harlem. After touring around Central Park North, again the view changes to fully academic passing by Columbia University. After Columbia, the streets are showing the retail stores with all Spanish signages all the way throughout West Harlem to Washington Heights. Finally it goes through Fort Tryon Park and finishes the north way tour at the Cloister Museum. It also shows at least 4 different distinctive demographics in the city.

M4 on the way down, runs on 5th Avenue; Central Park East on the left and Upper East Side Houses on the right side. It stops right in front of Guggenheim Museum, Museum of the City of New York, Cooper-Hewitt Museum and the Metropolitan Museum. Stayed on 5th Avenue, it goes through busy retail shops on 5th Avenue, stops at New York Library at 40th Street, and finishes at Penn Station.

It takes about 4 hours total for round trip, and it's totally worth of $5!
