Sat. 06/05/2010 - Brooklyn Flea

My search for the perfect (and less then $500) chair continued today, and brought me to the Brooklyn Flea Market. Brooklyn Flea is on every Saturday and Sunday, and each day on a different location. Saturday one is outdoor, and called the Fort Greene Flea. Sunday one is indoor and it's held in Williamsburg Saving Bank building. (The building itself is famous, so I can't wait to see it tomorrow!)

So I found the perfect chair...and they were $200 - $300. But since I didn't have a car, I had to pay for delivery which would cost me about the same amount as the chair. These were made by the two ladies, Myriah Scruggs and Nadia Yaron in their Brooklyn studio. All the pieces were made with salvaged materials, like abandoned chairs and reclaimed wood. And many times they had unfinished or raw look by intention like the chair above. Naturally, each piece was one of kind and each had its own character. It was my lucky day to see them today at flea, because today was the only day they were there and the next one will be in fall. But, due to my unfortunate situation with delivery, I couldn't buy one today. I think I have to make an appointment to their studio later after finding cheaper delivery service...

This guy was selling all the antiques from old pharmacies. Even the stamps were body parts. And the antique pharmacy lamp still works (but it was $190!!!).

These pieces were actually from a design studio that specialized props for stores, restaurants, etc. They displayed their work in this cool way, mounting the examples of their jobs in the vintage book keeping note. (And there is me wearing my new espadrilles!)

I am also a novice collector of antique bottles......

Cute potteries...made by this lady (I forgot her name). She also had tiny little porcelain necklaces.

These would make great pendant lamp along with a dark reclaimed wood dining table. Or with steel table for totally industrial look.

I am not a bicycle rider, but this was cute.

Regular items at any flea market...the vintage cameras.

With a simple glass top, it will be a nice console. I wouldn't top it with wood.

This Barcelona chair was only $600 and the delivery fee was only gas money. But I was not sure this was authentic, because the Eames Plywood chair the guy was selling, he said, was not real but replica. So, this might be the replica as well.

This dining bar was very handsome. I liked the mix of natural and industrial materials. I just wished that the wood was not lacquered.

This was only $250. Not that I liked it so much, but I thought the price was good.

And...some yummies...

Today's Purchase: An antique bottle. The guy said he could tell it's at least 100 years old by the label on the bottle, the way the label was set (if it was about 50 years old, the label would be printed on paper) and the bubbles. I guess I have to believe him...But I am learning about from talking to everyone I meet. And I am getting braver everyday and talk to almost anybody I meet.

I dropped $75 on this "Made in England" Bone China Set (they were made by Crown Staffordshire) + $15 for a canvas tote to carry these. I shouldn't have expected the lady would give me a nice paper shopping bag!!! At least they are in perfect condition.
