Thurs. 06/03/2010 - Streets Around Chelsea

I've been always fascinated by windows and doors of houses. Doors are the entrance to the unknown world, the world that I don't know and I never experienced. Windows are sort of a medium for my secret voyeurism, bringing out curiosity for the stories in the houses behind the windows. These are the psychological reasons of my fascination, but of course, there are also the architectural reasons as well.

I always wanted to have documentation of doors and windows of New York City. And today, I finally started my project. These are the pictures I took today from 21st and 22nd Street all between 9th and 10th Avenue. Many of the townhouses here were built around 1840s and 1850s and some houses still have the plates engraved with the builder and the built date.

A deli was selling logs. So I guess there are demands in this neighborhood. Unfortunately the battery of my camera died here.
