Mon. 06/28/2010 - Upper East Side

Upper East Side is the most elegant residential in the city. The houses here were once the homes of America's most economically powerful families. Still, the area is the most affluent and the most expensive area to live.

But walking around, and admiring all the beautiful mansions, apartment buildings and townhouses, I somehow felt "bored" today. It was very different feeling I had from Greenwich Village. I think in Greenwich Village, I could imagine the lives of artists, writers and others with Bohemian spirit. But today, in spite of all the beauty and luxury there, life seemed to to be stuffed and have no colors...

The area lies within 59th Street to 96th Street, Central Park and East Rive. Today I was in the Upper East Side historic district which is bounded by 59th to 79th Street and 5th to 3rd Avenue.

Efforts to maintain the beauty...

More beautiful mansions and townhouses.

A Fire House.

Upper East Side Synagogue.

Leaving out all the fancy eateries there, I had my lunch at a low key diner.

I think I always like old style barber shops.

Many townhouses (especially on 71st Street) were on the market.

I needed to add this pink here...

Right before entering quiet residential area, on 5th Avenue at 59th Street, Apple store and Plaza attracts tourists and locals as well.
